Inspiration!

So I probably should have mentioned beforehand that I am NOT good at keeping up with blogs. I’ve had at least three of them and they fell by the wayside. Oops.

Last class was entirely entertaining. We worked on taking fun pictures with the webcam, and also on Inspiration, which was entirely new to me. I like it, buuuut don’t at the same time. I’m too organized for bubbles and things like that, but I do like it for making family trees, something I do on a fairly regular basis. Webspiration is more or less Inspiration, but online! It does not have as many things to play with, but it works :) .

Found out this class that I have been using images (such as: from Flickr.com by EcoHeathen ) illegally. Thankfully CreativeCommons allows people to use things as long they cite who they got it from without expressly asking permission, which is particularly nice. Also good to know is how to put pictures in this! I like knowing how to play with pictures; I don’t organize things with them, but I DO like adding them to things :) .

We’re also learning how to personalize our blogs! Yay! I have a pretty theme on mine, but widgets? Cool! Frankly, the idea of widgets frightens me, but mostly because it also starts with ‘wi’ and wikis are the bane of my existance. Granted I know that’s because I didn’t know what I was doing, but it’s been twice that it didn’t work.

Anyway, off to go play with my blog! Have a good one! :)

Google Docs?!

Who ever heard of Google Docs? And why didn’t anyone TELL me about it?!  There is the distinct possibility that I am way to excited about it, but I love it. I’ve done collaborative things with people before, but it was our computers being connected, and you need adobe, and need to be invited, etc etc; but this makes it so much easier! I am going to go home and tell all of my roommates about this; it’s going to save them a lot of hassle. I also love that you can make powerpoints on it; there’s another site with which to do that, but I’m not certain I remember the name or address, which isn’t entirely helpful. Google, well, everyone knows Google, and so it’s not that hard to remember to go to docs instead. I cannot get over this… it is going to make my life a trillion times easier considering that I am one of like 3 people on the planet without Microsoft Office (I may have exaggerated the number). This is ridiculously helpful. And I know I’m repeating myself, but I’m currently in shock about how helpful it is and honestly, if I didn’t have to type words, I would simply have a huge stupid grin on my face. Thank god for this class, really; I’m learning how to search more effectively (which I fail at), I’m learning how to waste even more of my time online (which I succeed brilliantly at), and I’m learning alternatives to things that don’t open or I can’t use on my computer (which really is not my fault). So, pretty much, this just made my day :) .

Welcome to Me :)

Hello! My name is Lynn (JaimeLynn is a significant mouthful) McGaughey. I’m in my fourth year at Clarion University of Pennsylvania as a secondary education French and German major. I am a language person, there is no question about it; I love words and grammar and language of all kinds. Technology and wikis are not usually my strong point; they tend to bite me in the face when I try to use them, and then make me look silly. I have two younger sisters and eleven cousins, all of whom are girls, meaning that I grew up with all girls. I have a dog and four cats at home, much to my father’s distaste. I also am EXTREMELY verbose, typically about things that the average person doesn’t probably care about. However, as this is my first blog for my Microcomputer Applications class, I am taking the opportunity to talk about something other than the class.

Anyway, I have talked a lot about very little, and I hope you, whoever you are, are doing better than the average Tajikistani guy. :)
